The uniform worn by cadets and staff at the Academy is one that emulates the U.S. Navy. Cadets and staff are expected to wear their uniform with pride and maintain a sharp military appearance and posture both on the Academy grounds and while on liberty or leave. Uniforms and civilian clothing are expected to be neat and clean. Cadets will wear the complete uniform-of-the-day while on campus and white participating in off-campus school sponsored activities. Day cadets will arrive and leave in the proper uniform with shirts tucked-in. Cadets are not to change clothes in the parking lots or on 5th Avenue. Staff personnel, who have prior military experience, have the option of wearing the AFA uniform or their individual service uniform (if authorized).
NO ARTICLES SHALL PROTRUDE FROM OR BE VISIBLE ON THE UNIFORM, including such items as personal electronic pagers/cellular phones, pencils, pens, watch chains, key chain fobs, pins, jewelry, combs, large wallets, or similar items.

Undergarments
Appropriate undergarments shall be worn to preserve the dignity and appearance of the uniform. Cadets are required to wear plain white (non-printed) crew-neck t-shirts with all formal uniforms. Academy staff are permitted to wear either v-neck or crew-neck white t-shirts.
Tailoring
Uniforms should be tailored to provide a well-fitting, professional military bearing. They shall not be altered to the extent of detracting from a military appearance, nor shall they be tailored to the point of presenting a tight form fit.
